POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER in Head Impact Biomechanics
Simbex is currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher to assist in our ongoing studies (NIH and NOCSAE)
of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Our company and collaborative research partners are uniquely
positioned to understand mTBI using a multi-disciplinary approach encompassing real-time on-field
measures of head acceleration (HIT System), neural imaging (e.g., fMRI, DTI), neural cognitive testing,
and on-field symptomology. The long-term goal of our research is to understand the pathomechanics
and clinical sequelae of mTBI enabling translational research and development of new clinical and
therapeutic techniques to reduce the incidence and negative effects of mTBI. Our research to date
has collected over 500,000 impacts on over 500 individuals across football, hockey, boxing, skiing,
soccer, and equestrian.
Responsibilities:
Applicant is expected to assist in data collection and coordination across multiple sites including
pre- and post- mTBI event, biomechanical data analysis, coordination of data analysis across
disciplines, assist in preparation of manuscripts, and presentations of results at research and
medical conferences. This is a 12-24 month position with an anticipated start date of March 1, 2008.
Required Qualifications:
We are seeking a talented PhD with a strong experimental research background in impact biomechanics.
Experience in multivariate statistical techniques, data visualization techniques, relational databases,
C/C++ programming, and Matlab are desired, but not required. Candidates should also have strong
communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently as
well as on a team. Strong applicants will have a documented record of scientific excellence, independent
research and collaboration. The current position may be subject to a NIH Administrative Supplement
to expand diversity in the workforce from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in science
(including racial and ethnical groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged
backgrounds). Candidates that meet these eligibility criteria are strongly encouraged to apply.
See http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/wmpd/ for specific information regarding these groups.
RESEARCH ENGINEER
We are seeking research engineers with experience in research design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.

Required Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years experience as a design engineer
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
ENGINEERING STUDENT INTERNSHIP
We are seeking engineering students who will be involved in the design of novel products in the areas of sport injury, mobility aids, as well as exercise and rehabilitation equipment. |
