SIMBEX HAS TWO PROJECTS RECOGNIZED BY TIME MAGAZINE IN ITS PRESTIGIOUS LIST OF "Best Inventions of 2007"

The HIT System™ technology for alerting athletes of potential brain injury and the PowerFoot One™ powered prosthetic ankle are recognized as major product innovations of 2007.

Lebanon, NH - November 12, 2007 - Time Magazine released its annual " Best Inventions of 2007" issue, and Simbex LLC had two of its projects make the list: the HIT System™ (Head Impact Telemetry System) and the PowerFoot One™. The HIT System was honored in the "Living" section and the PowerFoot One was highlighted in the "Health" section of this 8th Annual Best Inventions of the Year Issue.

Lev Grossman, staff writer, leads the "Best Inventions Team" at Time Magazine. The team begins a process of reviewing new technologies in September of each year. In what Mr. Grossman calls "the longest and most difficult meeting of the year," his group arrives at an initial list of over 120 inventions. "We really felt that these were the most important inventions of the year," said Grossman in a taped interview. "Things that made peoples' lives better," he continued. After culling the list down, the staff contacts the inventors to make sure that the engineering has been done, the prototypes work and that the path to commercialization seems achievable to avoid including "smoke-and-mirrors" ideas into a list of inventions.

The HIT System, which has been extensively developed by Simbex in a number of applications, was recognized in the form of the Revolution IQ HITS™, which is being marketed by Riddell. The technology is the first system that can measure, analyze and record head impacts during football practices and games. The Revolution IQ HITS is now available to the general public, where the technology was previously marketed only to the professional medical staff at major football programs. (Link to Time Article)

The PowerFoot One™ is the world's first powered ankle prosthesis for lower limb amputees. Simbex had joined forces with internationally renowned inventor and MIT Media Lab professor Hugh Herr, PhD, to commercialize the technology. The prototype pictured was developed with funding from the US Army through the Small Business Technology Transfer Research (STTR) program. The Simbex/MIT team, headed by Simbex founder and President Richard Greenwald, has been awarded a Phase II contract for commercial development of PowerFoot One™. The PowerFoot One™ has an expected commercial launch in 2008 through Dr. Herr's company, iWalk. (Link to Time Article)

"We were amazed at how the news shapes the needs for technology. This year war in Iraq has certainly changed the landscape. We have a fascinating new prosthetic that will be immensely useful for returning wounded veterans," said Grossman.

"The inclusion of the two Simbex projects on such a prestigious list validates the quality and relevance of the work that is being done at Simbex. Our small team continues to be recognized for producing groundbreaking products that rival those of companies with much greater resources," said Dr. Greenwald. "We have a number of other projects in the pipeline that we believe will also offer solutions for major public health challenges."
