SIMBEX ANNOUNCES THE INTRODUCTION OF A NEW VOLUME MANAGEMENT PRODUCT
The Socket Renewer™ uses the patented Active Contact System™ volume management technology to renew trans-femoral socket fit.
Lebanon, NH - March 19, 2003 - Simbex LLC announced today that it is unveiling a new member of the Active Contact System™ product line at the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) national meeting in San Diego, California on March 19, 2003.
The Socket Renewer™ was conceived to be an easy add-on to an existing transfemoral prosthesis that can improve the comfort and performance of a prosthesis for those who cannot maintain an intimate fit with their prosthesis due to natural limb volume fluctuations. This product uses Simbex's flagship Active Contact System™ technology introduced at last year's AAOP National Meeting in Orlando.
"We knew the market was waiting for the introduction of our SR - 80 Volume Manager [referring to the Active Contact System™ Socket Renewer™ 80 Volume Manager] but we had to prove the technology with the IC - 110 version [referring to the Integrated Case Model]," according to Richard M. Greenwald, President and co-founder of Simbex. The IC - 110 model is better adapted to the fabrication process of new socket construction, while the SR - 80 has no effect on build-height and can easily be mounted internal or external to the hard frame of the prosthesis.
Active Contact System was given a rigorous market test by the use of an innovative, controlled, introductory sales program called the "PDP Program" (Product Development Partner). Simbex engaged prosthetists nationwide to try the Active Contact System™ and report on the satisfaction of amputees for fit and function and prosthetists and technicians for ease of installation. "In order to meet our ambitious objectives for product development, we had to finish our clinical trials and turbo-charge the field trials to get the most results possible. We want to thank the many prosthetists that participated with us to put the technology to the test," said Greenwald.
The new product will be unveiled at the San Diego AAOP National Meeting March 19 - 22, 2003 and should be ready for delivery in early May.

SIMBEX ANNOUNCES CONTINUED FUNDING FOR ACTIVE CONTACT SYSTEM™ AND INNOVATIVE PROSTHETIC PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Simbex Attracts New Private Investment and Qualifies for Continued National Science Foundation Funding for O+P Research.
Lebanon, NH - March 19, 2003 - Simbex LLC announced today that it has attracted private investment to fund continued research and development of innovative orthotics and prosthetics products and processes.
Even with the economy reporting daily cuts and crises, Simbex confirmed today that it has succeeded in attracting additional private funding to propel its research. "The new funding is to be directed at two areas of development, our patented Smart Variable Geometry Socket (the technology that powers the Active Contact System™) and new innovative socket research," said Richard M Greenwald, PhD, President and co-founder of Simbex. "Development of a novel approach to socket construction is a perfect compliment to the continued development of Active Contact System™ for daily and long term volume management. We believe that the additional funding will allow us to concentrate more resources and talent on this subject so we can accelerate the rate of technology releases and developments."
"This significant level of funding will allow us to bring the resources to bear that are necessary for true innovation." While not revealing the sources or details of the private investment, Dr. Greenwald did add that he was proud and gratified to qualify for additional funding from the National Science Foundation based on the private investment. "Both the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation have recognized the societal importance of this kind of product development and have dedicated resources through the Small Business Innovation Research program," said Greenwald.
