NEW VOLUME MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY, ACTIVE CONTACT SYSTEM™ SHIPS TO PROSTHETISTS
New Hampshire high-tech firm ramps up for the prosthetics industry.
Lebanon, NH - September 8, 2002: Simbex LLC announced today that it has begun shipping its Active Contact System™, volume management technology for transfemoral suction sockets. "We are truly excited to have come to this historic step for our company. After almost a decade of research and two years of product development, testing, and clinical trials we have finally brought this concept to the market," said Richard M. Greenwald, PhD, President and Co-Founder of Simbex.
The Active Contact System™ is a self-actuated system that fills the dynamically changing space between the residual limb and the socket. It works by regulating the amount of hydraulic pressure inside strategically placed bladders located within the socket. The natural motion of walking provides the only power necessary.
The product is available through an innovative sales program called the Product Development Partner program (PDP). This program seeks innovative prosthetists who want to gain hands-on experience with the new Active Contact System™ product technology while providing an important consulting service for the company. The prosthetist fills out a series of installation and patient follow-up reports that detail the prosthetist's and the patient's experiences with the product, for which they are paid a consulting fee. "This program is a wonderful extension of our clinical trials that allows us to gain more data for our transtibial and non-suction products that are already under development," said Greenwald.
In further developments at Simbex, James C. Dean has joined the staff and Lisa Leary has added PDP Customer Support and Sales to her duties. James Dean brings to Simbex a strong history of project leadership and engineering skills for design, development, evaluation, production and customer support of transfemoral and transtibial products. His impressive list of accomplishments includes Engineering and Quality managing posts at Boeing Defense and Space Groups and other New England specialty engineering firms. His specialty is testing and qualification of electro-mechanical systems and sub-systems. Lisa Leary, Clinical Research Coordinator, with over ten years experience in the Biomedical industry, brings a wealth of experience and product knowledge to the team.
"In the field of prosthetics, we are evolving from a research to a product development company. Our next goal will be to ramp up our sales and distribution efforts so we will be ready for the launch of our transtibial volume management products", concluded Dr. Greenwald.
