There are three core programs that comprise the work accomplished at TREAT. These programs all focus on rapidly expanding the knowledge base and education of medical rehabilitation researchers related to rehabilitation technology evaluation and commercialization.

• Rehabilitation Technology Assessment Core includes an existing program and paradigm for technology evaluation, including but not limited to technical and commercial feasibility, clinical relevance, intellectual property and technology transfer, market evaluation, cost estimation, financing opportunities. Advisors and participants include scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, marketing experts, and venture capitalists.

• Rehabilitation Technology Prototyping and Development Core has existing capacity and expertise to design, build, test, and transfer to manufacturing technology concepts that pass the technology assessment screening process. Additionally, the facility is set up to provide technical training for visiting scholars to learn and adapt processes related to product development for medical rehabilitation technologies. Existing resources and expertise exist in electromechanical systems (eg. electronics, motors, hydraulics/pneumatics, computer hardware and software), materials research and testing, assistive technologies, orthopedic devices, miniature microprocessor-based portable data collection systems and technologies, software interfaces, computer modeling and simulation, large scale database implementation and data analysis, and comprehensive machine shop capabilities.
• Comparative Effectiveness Clinical Research Core provides education, services and training to allow rehabilitation researchers to develop and propose relevant and practical clinical trials to support the validation and translation of research ideas to clinical practice.
